The Major Oak, Sherwood Forest limited edition print by Charles Sainsbury-Plaice

Regular price £1,250.00

This majestic English oak, believed to be the shelter of Robin Hood and his merry men, stands as a symbol of folklore and natural wonder. Weighing approximately 23 tons with a remarkable girth of 33 feet (10 meters) and a towering canopy reaching 92 feet (28 meters), this ancient oak is estimated to be 800–1,000 years old. Notably, in 2014, it earned the prestigious title of 'England's Tree of the Year' through a public poll conducted by the Woodland Trust, securing 18% of the votes. The origin of its name can be traced back to Major Hayman Rooke's depiction of it in 1790. Discover the allure of this historic giant and immerse yourself in the enchanting tales of Sherwood Forest.
