The book showcases 70 remarkable ancient trees and 70 historic woodlands from across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Photographed over the course of a year by Charles Sainsbury-Plaice and Adrian Houston, it creates an extraordinary visual record of Britain's living natural heritage.

Charles Sainsbury-Plaice spent 25 years working for HM The King, documenting countryside, farming and environmental initiatives. As one of the principal photographers for The Queen's Green Canopy, he travelled throughout Britain recording many of the nation's most remarkable ancient trees and woodland landscapes.

Together with internationally respected photographer and author Adrian Houston, their work creates an enduring photographic archive of one of Britain's most significant conservation initiatives.

Contributors to The Queen's Green Canopy

Complementing the photography are personal reflections from conservationists, broadcasters, authors and public figures including Alan Titchmarsh, Adam Henson, Danny Clarke, Dame Judi Dench, Dame Joanna Lumley, Andy Burnham, Archbishop Justin Welby, together with representatives from the Woodland Trust and the Duchy of Cornwall.
