The woodcock in the British Isles is a secretive, woodland bird known for its mottled brown plumage, which provides excellent camouflage. These birds are primarily nocturnal, feeding on earthworms and insects. Woodcocks are most visible during their "roding" display flights at dusk and dawn in the spring breeding season.
